The debut appearance of Caversham’s D team in the SCF’s Single Court League was something of a family affair.
Club GC team manager Jane Probitts — who worked so hard to get the club a third side into the competition — found herself up against her husband, Chris Barnard, in the deciding match of the C v D showdown.
Jane finally prevailed at the 14th hoop of an epic struggle but Chris took home the spoils for the D side as he and his partner John Walker came out on top 3-2.
John overcame Katy Armitage to clinch victory for his team. Earlier the two ladies battled bravely to come back from 5-1 behind to win the opening doubles.
