Caversham gave a much stronger Blewbury team quite a shock in the first fixture in the SCF Short Croquet league yesterday.
The three-man Caversham team of Charles Briggs, Mark Keogh and Brian Jamieson lost 5 – 4.
Charles won two of his three games, including an outstanding 14 – 9 win against County player Joe King (AC handicap -0.5).
Mark impressed in his last game, beating Steve Fisher 14 – 0. He took his first ball through six hoops to the peg in a single break without using any of his bisques.
Caversham play Hamptworth, the only other team in this small league, on Wednesday, when our team will be Chris Pegrum, Charles Briggs and Carol and Brian Jamieson.
Short Croquet is essentially AC played on a half lawn. All games have a time limit of 75 minutes. It is good introduction to competitive AC. Here’s yesterday’s scorecard…
