Debutant Bill Runacre helped Caversham C to a hard-fought 3-2 win over Basingstoke Cavaliers yesterday — and then revealed the secret ingredient of his success.

After losing his first singles match, Bill needed to find something extra… so he dined on peanut butter sandwiches!
That proved the perfect dietary requirement as the club membership secretary promptly stormed to a convincing 7-1 victory straight after lunch.
Bill said: “I felt rejuvenated and ready to re-enter the fray. Peanut butter sandwiches were just the fuel I needed.
“My proudest moment was a scoring jump shot which then travelled to the far end of the lawn.”

Bill and his playing partner Mark Keogh had found themselves 2-1 behind at the break despite snatching a closely-fought doubles win at the 14th.
After Bill’s lunchtime super-snack inspired triumph, Mark made sure of the points in the SCF One Court Clubs’ Advantage League with a 7-5 success. See the full scoreboard below.
