Happy Wednesday for Tuesday and Friday group

Miriam Williams and Peter Clee prepare for their game Pic: Sandra Clee

Caversham’s T&F group had a highly enjoyable day out on their annual trip to contest a friendly fixture with their old chums at Harwell on Wednesday.

Our ex-Basildon players — Miriam and Lionel Williams, Bill and Ann Hatchett plus Sandra and Peter Clee — were five matches to two behind but ahead in the two final games when it was agreed to call a halt because of the dropping temperature.

Sandra and Bill paired up to win both their matches and a special mention must go to Peter Clee, who is still playing regularly a week short of his 92nd birthday. Sandra said: “We had a lovely afternoon and welcome from Harwell members. All in all it was a successful day. We’re all looking forward to the next match in July.”

The fixture has become a regular in the calendar since the Harwell coaching guru Jim Bartlett came to Albert Road to do some coaching and invited the T & F players back for a friendly.
