Pegrum has a ball… and a shield!

Caversham’s Winslow Cup champ Chris Pegrum won the Wessex Shield at the at the weekend.

Chris (right) won all of his first five scheduled games in the annual AC handicap event played at the Winchester and Littleton clubs on Saturday and Sunday.

Although he chose to forfeit his last game because he was due at a college ball in Oxford, Chris had still done enough to take the title.

His nearest opponent, Roger Barnacle of Winchester (playing off a handicap of three), lost his final game and so couldn’t match our man’s five wins.

As a result of his victories over some of the best players in the southern region, Chris’s handicap has been cut to eight.
