Long-serving secretary John Wakeford wishes it to be known that reports of his demise have been greatly exaggerated.
There were fears for the health of the popular committee man when he unexpectedly missed the club’s annual general meeting.
John, however, was simply being very careful. Rated by the medics as “extremely vulnerable” during the Covid pandemic, he decided that it wasn’t a great idea to be spend a couple of hours crammed into St Andrew’s church hall with the rest of us.
“I had heard the horror stories about the Bowls Club quiz in a similar small room being a super-spreader event so I gave my apologies for absence,” he said.
The good news for John is that he is still healthy enough to be regularly on the lawn, mowing (left) as well as playing.
The bad news for him is that, in his absence, we voted him in for yet another year as club secretary when he had planned to stand down!
In the meantime, best wishes for a speedy recovery to those who really have been sidelined by illness, including Linda and Bob Eales.
And a hearty welcome back to those who have recently returned to the lawn after sickness, such as Anne and Tim Small.
